Introduction
One of the most enduring stars of Inspector Morse was ‘248 RPA’ the Mark II Jaguar seen in almost every episode of the series. Another memorable image is that of the Barbara Bray, the narrow boat which featured in The Wench Is Dead. This weekend hopes to combine both these elements in such a way as to be of interest to even those who are not car or canal enthusiasts. Unfortunately as many will have read in the press Jaguar are closing their Browns Lane factory so it is no longer possible to visit that production line, and in any event the factories do not open at weekends. However, we are fortunate to be given access (possibly for the last time) to the Castle Bromwich site where the modern ‘S Type’ Jaguar is made. We are also fortunate to have found an expert on Jaguar who is going to give us a talk from the Morse perspective, and to round things off we are going to have a murder mystery evening, similar to that we held during the Lyme Regis weekend.

12:00 – 16:00 We will meet for a private buffet lunch at the Coventry Transport Museum. After lunch we will be given a tour of this impressive museum right in the heart of Coventry, and also a talk by our guest speaker, Nigel Thorley, on Jaguar. The rest of the afternoon is free to explore the museum and the other sites of interest in Coventry. It is approximately an hour by car or train to Wolverhampton where our accommodation is based. 19:00 – 23:00 Members will gather in the bar at The Mount Hotel in Tettenhall Wood for an evening of murder mystery (as well as a fine dinner). Pit your wits against Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson.

8:00 – 9:30 Breakfast 10:00 – 16:00 A full day visit to the nearby Black Country Museum including a traditional Sunday lunch and guided tours. Explore the underground coal mine, experience a lesson in the traditional Schoolroom, ride on a tram car, travel on a canal boat into limestone caves and see where The Wench Is Dead was filmed. Dinner at the hotel is also included, but there are no formal planned activities during the evening.

The accommodation chosen is the superb Mount Hotel (Signature Group) which boasts a wealth of character and charm in the village of Tettenhall Wood close to Wolverhampton. The hotel was originally the graceful country house of Charles Mander (the chemist) and was built in 1865, with a ballroom added in 1891. The hotel is set in manicured gardens and ornamental woodland and prides itself on the quality of its food.

Entire Weekend £179 inclusive of 2 nights dinner, bed and breakfast at Mount Hotel, lunch at Coventry Transport Museum, traditional Sunday lunch at the Black Country Museum, lunch at the Windmill Village Golf Club, guided tours of the Coventry Transport Museum, Black Country Museum (including canal boat trip), tour of the Jaguar production line at Castle Bromwich, and the Jaguar Heritage Centre at Browns Lane, guest lecturer and souvenir gift.
Single Room Supplement - £10 per night. Early Bird Discount – £10 per person if booking is made before 14th February 2005. (Does not apply to Day Ticket bookings) Event vouchers are acceptable - please enclose your receipt.
